Ailsa’s travel theme of Smoke and Mirrors on this weeks http://www.wheresmybackpack.com is clearly open for interpretation.
I guess I used some of this latitude with my images of Cape Town’s first Holi Festival, which shows of the clouds of colourful smoke resulting from the colourful powders that were flung into the air by revellers every hour on the hour. So smoke without mirrors in this case 🙂
Not unlike the Hindu Festival, where the arrival of Spring is celebrated by a colour filled festival. Holi participants hold a bonfire, throw coloured powder at each other, and celebrate wildly.
The Cape Town Festival was inspired by that, under the banner of “we are all one” with a celebration also filled with colour, music and dance.
