Happy Birthday Madiba ! (Mandela)

Today’s blog is dedicated to joining the World in wishing Nelson Mandela a Happy 93rd Birthday. We are truly blessed to live in a time when a man selflessly gives 67 years of his life fighting for the rights of humanity. A living example for one and all of us. His unrelenting spirit despite being imprisoned for 27 years in the prime of his life are testimony to his character.

United Nations unanimously officially adopted 18th July as “Nelson Mandela International Day” on 9 November 2009. Mandela Day is an annual international day of humanitarian action in celebration of Mr Mandela’s life and legacy. It serves as a catalyst for each and every person to realise that they have the ability to change the world through action. There have been numerous calls for everybody to give 67 minutes of their time, serving their Community, their country and the world, as a little step towards becoming part of a global movement for good.

Perhaps you did the 67 minutes, perhaps you didnt, perhaps you knew, perhaps you didnt, however it worked out in your case, its your personal journey. I’d like to think that in some way or another we all have the spirit of Nelson Mandela within us, maybe its not expressed as loudly, but in much smaller ways his example shines through all of us. So for now, despite what you may or may not have done to honour this great man on this day, just take this moment to ponder one of his most famous quotes “During my lifetime I have dedicated myself to this struggle of the African people. I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.”

So Happy Birthday Madiba! I am extremely humbled by the sacrifices you made for this country so that I and all my fellow South Africans can all live in a Democratic Non Racial South Africa today. We salute you!!

The journey continues………………………………..

Todays images are of ordinary South Africans from all walks of life, at work or play who would undoubtedly be unanimous in wishing our Madiba a HAPPY BIRTHDAY !! ………………………………………
